Good Morning America really understands the #youth. In addition to waking up early to hear the latest news, the youth also like memes (#relatable). This morning, the morning show’s Twitter account foolishly asked followers if a photo of LeBron James crying would turn into a viral sensation like other popular memes.
Unbeknownst to poor, sweet GMA, #TeaLizard is none other than A-list frog and star of The Muppets Kermit the Frog drinking tea in a Lipton tea commercial, and #smockin was a misspelled line from Jim Carrey’s The Mask. These two legendary memes originated from Weird Twitter, specifically an anti-joke from online funny person @trillballins.
The internet, of course, responded to GMA’s silly post with memes of their own, making #TeaLizard trend on Twitter and generally having a field day at the morning show’s expense. Click through the gallery for the internet’s funniest reactions to #TeaLizard-gate.
