Earlier this year we gathered together the best memes about every major Democratic and Republican candidate for president. We’ve got the major parties set, but could 2016 be the rise of the Third Party? With two such polarizing political candidates for president, third parties are polling at a much higher percentage than other years. Many Bernie Sanders supporters have mollified their fervor and accepted Hillary as their candidate, while others are going all in for the Green with candidate Jill Stein. With her stances on accessible higher education, strong environmental platforms, and a long history of committing to equality, Stein is adding fuel to Bernie’s revolution. Stein ran as the Green Party Nominee in 2012, garnering 0.36% of the total votes. Much has changed since then, as she is polling about four times that, reaching the low single digits. While Stein’s polling numbers aren’t close enough to make her viable for the debates in September (she would need 15%) the polling numbers are still a marked spike for previous years, perhaps implying change to come in future election. Republican and Democrat voters are on repeat, insisting to their friends, acquaintances, and Twitter-sphere that a Third Party vote is a wasted vote/a vote for the candidate they least want. Stein would disagree.
