We were going to tell you about how Donald Trump finally confirmed that Indiana governor Mike Pence is his running mate, and then link to a bunch of funny tweets about that, but at this point we think we might just have to put the keyboard down and retire from public life altogether. Comedy has been defeated by Donald Trump, once and for all.
Shortly after the Pence announcement, the Trump campaign sent out its new logo, and, well, it looks like a couple of letters trying to get each other pregnant. That T is just lodged deep inside of that P, in an unwitting symbol of what Trump is about to do to America, or, as @RexHuppke tweeted, Pence’s career. (Not that Pence ever had much hope outside of a state as conservative as Indiana—remember, this is the guy who’s cool with business owners telling homosexuals to get the hell out of their store.)
What hope does comedy have in a world like this? No comedian can do or say anything more hilarious than the gold that Trump and his campaign pump out multiple times a day. Sure, it’s incredibly depressing gold, most of the time, built around hate and dehumanization, but y’know, black comedy’s been big for decades now.
So yes, this is an incomparably hilarious campaign logo. It’s so absurd that it’s hard to believe it’s not intentional. This is more grist for those conspiracy theorists who think the Trump campaign is somehow intentionally trolling America and our electoral system.
It might be impossible to write or say anything funnier than this logo, but that doesn’t mean the entire country isn’t currently trying to do that on Twitter. The best efforts are almost as good as the logo itself, and we’ve scraped them together right here in one convenient little gallery. We’ve also filled it out with tweets about Mike Pence and some of the potential VP picks who were snubbed by Trump, because honestly we were already working on that thing before that logo was ever gifted upon the world.
