You’d think June’s covers would evoke a summer vibe, but only Greg Smallwood’s psychedelically aflame Darth Vader: Dark Visions and Becca Carey’s distorted Buffy the Vampire Slayer really bring to mind the onset of the season—although a case could be made for Rahzzah’s day-glo X-Tremists piece looking like cover art for a pop band’s summer hit. Elsewhere, constant presences like Joshua Middleton, David Mack, Nick Robles, Alex Ross and Julian Totino Tedesco all make their presences known, consistently raising the bar for what we deem impressive cover art. We also find Marvel’s latest variant premise—bystanders witnessing mighty Marvel moments—dominating a chunk of the round-up, and we imagine many of you will look like the young person on Yasmine Putri’s Thor cover, gazing up in awe at such wondrous sights.
