The temperatures are plummeting, school’s back in session and fall has invited us back into the warm confines of a good comic. Judging from the rows of eye candy available this month, trick ‘r treat has come early. Steve Skroce and Russell Dauterman embrace the cosmic with respective cover art for brand new Image series Maestros and The Mighty Thor #700, which sees publisher Marvel return to the Norse epic’s original numbering. But some of the most fetching art is far more terrestrial and spunky; Frank Quitely nails the ‘70s punk-heartthrob aesthetic in his variant for Kid Lobotomy, Amanda Connor expands Archie Andrews’ love triangle into a love pentagram for Harley and Ivy Meet Betty and Veronica and Noelle Stevenson returns to Lumberjanes with a suitably Wes Anderson color palate, not to mention Nidhi Chanani’s enchanting art for Pashmina. Nick Derington (Mister Miracle), Vanesa R. Del Rey (Redlands), Veronica Fish (Slam: The Next Jam), Ryan Bodenheim (The Dying and The Dead) and Mikhail Borulko (War of Planet of the Apes) round out the best comic book covers of October.
