Exclusive: comiXology Originals Debuts Kel McDonald & Tyler Crook&#8217;s <i>The Stone King</i>

Last month, Paste shared the news that comiXology is releasing original creator-owned comic books and graphic novels for the first time as part of its comiXology Originals program, which previously ran digital-first licensed comics from publishers including Marvel Comics and Valiant Entertainment. Among the teased future contributors was Harrow County artist Tyler Crook, and today Paste can exclusively share a first look at his comiXology Originals series The Stone King, created with writer Kel McDonald and announced today at Comic-Con International in San Diego.

The Stone King is a four-issue all-ages fantasy adventure about “finding who you are through taking responsibility for your mistakes.” The mini-series follows a teen thief who provokes a giant in her quest to determine her future path. McDonald is the creator of the webcomic Sorcery 101, a contributor to the Smut Peddler and Sleep of Reason anthologies and the writer/artist of Dark Horse Comics’ Misfits of Avalon. In addition to his work on Harrow County, Crook is the award-winning cartoonist of Petrograd and one of the artists behind Mike Mignola’s B.P.R.D.: Hell on Earth.

The Stone King will go on sale at a later date, but should be available for preorder now. Like other comiXology Originals, The Stone King is free to read for members of Amazon Prime, Kindle Unlimited and comiXology Unlimited, and print editions will be available via Amazon’s Print-on-Demand service. Check out an exclusive first look at Crook’s cover and interior art below.
