Leave it to Kengo Kuma and Associates, the designers of Japan’s 2020 Olympic Stadium, to create a more efficient and creative approach to children’s toys.
The firm, along with conservation group More Trees, has created Tsumiki, a set of building blocks being called the “Japanese Lego,” which are triangular in shape. Each block is a cedar triangle with notches allowing them to fit together for building. Because of the shape, the most stable in architecture, kids can construct a wider variety of designs than with rectangular Legos or blocks: arches, temples and bridges, to name a few.
Aspiring architects can buy the blocks in packs of 13 for $74 from More Trees. Pretty darn expensive, but you pay for craftsmanship.
