It’s almost hard to believe that our insane, ambitious quest to blind-taste and rate 115 double India pale ales is finally complete. In the process, we took quite a lot of photos. It was necessary—we needed a photo of every single entry, just in case that particular one ended up advancing to the finals. In the final rankings we posted today, we were able to use 50 of those DIPA photos, but why let all the rest go to waste? You can now view the full 115 above.
Craft beer, given the right lighting and combination of labels and glassware, can be a beautiful thing to photograph. Scrolling through these, note the incredible degree of variation within a single style—from the glowing, golden light of Heady Topper to the deep ruby red maltiness of Triple C’s Baby Maker. It was quite the experience to taste them all, to say the very least.
