Prominent Counter-Strike: Global Offensive caster and commentator Matthew “Sadokist” Trivett was suspended on Monday after using racist and harassing language during a personal livestream on Sunday.
The popular CS:GO e-sports figure gathered some friends for a birthday PUBG stream on Sunday and used a racial slur in the midst of some friendly prodding over their battle royale skills. He went on to tell another CS:GO community member, Don Haci, to “go fuck yourself,” adding, “Maybe put a belt around your neck and jump off a cliff with that belt still attached … That would be better for everyone.”
Trivett’s remarks quickly spread across Twitter, Reddit and other social media sites, with many labelling his comments as hypocritical following his condemnation of former Dallas Fuel tank Felix “xQc” Lengyel’s use of a racially charged emote. Some called it the final nail in the coffin, though, according to Trevitt, none of his current employers have shown signs of ending their relationship with the regular voice of CS:GO Grand Finals matches.
Others within the community, including CS:GO pro David “Davey” Stafford, came to Trevitt’s defense while condemning his comments. “I think it’s important to say that what sadokist did was stupid, wrong and unacceptable … But, let’s not start just saying he is a racist because of it. I’ve known Matt for a long time and a racist, is something he’s not,” said Stafford.
Overwatch League caster MonteCristo hinted that Trevitt was intoxicated during his stream. “If I could give Sadokist a birthday present, it would be to take away his ability to interact with the public while intoxicated,” said MonteCristo.
Trevitt issued an apology via Facebook on Monday, stating that he was “disgusted, disappointed, and in disbelief at my own actions.” He also stated that he would understand and not appeal any punishment from his current employers following his Twitch suspension. “There has been no shortage of opinions vocalized on various medias over the last day, and the sentiment of many of those are not lost on me. I respect understand the notion for further punishment, and will not appeal any decisions made by those that I have put in an awkward position,” said Trevitt.
