5. The Billboards of Boston: one of the more vibrant remnants of Boston is its many signs, each styled to reflect the game's frozen-in-the-50s theme while bearing the weathered traces of war and neglect. The more battered they look, the better.

Arguably they're at their best when the weather is good and the sky is a blinding shade of blue.

4. Diamond City: at first glance this scrappy little city may not seem like much to look at, but with its rustic heaps of metal and salvaged neon signs, there's more than meets first glance.

The shops and many of the buildings have improvised signs that add character and unique definition to each citizen's little spot on former baseball park's tightly packed land.

3. Iconic Buildings On The Commonwealth Landscape: the most memorable locations in Fallout 4 are those with the unique structures, buildings, and statues that defined their purpose. The water tower outside Concord serves as one of the earliest monuments the player comes across, acting as a beacon drawing them to explore the world outside of Sanctuary Hills. Both improved textures or enhanced draw distance will be an asset.

Some of the buildings are common in real life but scarce within the greater Boston area. This lighthouse, like the water tower, is another stand-out visual on the horizon, one of many meant to draw the player to a new area by motivating them to explore.
This technique has long been used in exploration-heavy Bethesda games, perhaps to best effect in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, a game that is many times larger than Fallout 4 and features an aesthetic considered more traditionally beautiful. Nonetheless, the series has always been strongly supported by its ability to provoke curiosity, and its varied structures are a part of that.

Statues achieve the same on a smaller scale, and some of those in Boston are integral to the story-telling ability of the environment.

2. Boston Airport/Brotherhood of Steel base: burnished metal gathering heat in the sun, rusted cargo containers and old framing; the Boston Airport area is another one of the prettiest shitholes in all of the Commonwealth.

Of particular note is the return of Liberty Prime, who has only become more grand and imposing with time.

1. Prydwyn : The Prydwyn is a ship, but one that remains stationary for the most of the game and has its own fast travel icon. It also houses much of the Brotherhood of Steel, making it more or less a permanent location. The moment it flies overhead before settling in on the coast is one of the most awe-inspiring in the game, and I can't wait to see what it looks like with slicker visuals.
