4. Wario: Nintendo's resident trickster is dancing a manic jig, with anger, malice and enthusiasm all awash on his menacing face. Wario's the Nintendo character you could most see yourself getting a beer with, if only because he's the only Nintendo character who looks like a drinker. The salmon-colored pants don't quite fit his tough guy image, but otherwise this is an ideal representation of Nintendo's original bad boy.

3. Greninja: Recasting this Joan Miró design into a three-dimensional figure might completely miss the artist's point, but it does turn yet another Pokémon into a fun and striking toy. It might save on scarf money, but I don't see how wearing your tongue like that is in any way a good idea. This psychedelic frog shows how Pokémon is far more varied in its designs than its critics might think, and also makes for a fine figure.

2. Ness: The brave little boy from Earthbound is one of Nintendo's more beloved cult characters, thanks in part to regular appearances in Super Smash Bros. The Amiibo perfectly captures his youthful vigor and enduring courage, making this one of the best figures yet.

1. Squid: The clear stand-out of the Splatoon pack is the one to own, making its exclusivity to the three-figure combo pack a canny marketing move from Nintendo. This is the fiercest and most determined squid you'll ever see, and the paint splatter effect might be the most electric design element on any Amiibo.
