The Loot From <i>Overwatch</i>'s Chinese New Year Event

On the heels of Winter Wonderland, the Overwatch team present the Year of the Rooster event. Packed inside each of the Lunar New Year Loot Boxes are a delectable selection of Chinese-inspired items, including various icons, sprays, and character-specific goodies. Skins for Mei, Tracer, D.Va, Junkrat, Bastion, Ana, and Symmetra are all available with varying degrees of rarity. Zenyatta, Winston, Reinhardt, and Roadhog received special skins inspired by 16th century novel Journey to the West, representing the main character Xuanzang, and his disciples Sun Wukong, Sha Wujin, and Zhu Bajie, respectively.

On top of the the beautifully-crafted new skins, Mercy, Roadhog, and Tracer received new highlight intros, while D.Va and Junkrat got new emotes. For those, hit up our Imgur gallery. To top it all off, Ana, Mei, Bastion, D.Va, Junkrat, Sombra, and Roadhog all got new match-end victory poses.

Beyond that, a new capture-the-flag-style mode titled Capture the Rooster is the special brawl for the Year of the Rooster event. This mode sees two teams of six simultaneously attacking the enemy encampment to attempt to retriever their flag all while guarding their own. Both flags at play concurrently adds a certain layer of depth, as teams will have to allocate individuals to run the offensive as well as prevent the enemy team from snatching up their flag. High mobility characters like D.Va and Winston have proven to be essential in capturing flags, while defensive mainstays in Torbjörn and Symmetra see frequent play on defense.

Year of the Rooster is available to play right now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC platforms and will run until February 13th. Get in quick, because the limited time items won’t be available after the event!
