Well, that didn’t exactly tell us much.

The first Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer gives us a good look at how far Rockstar is pushing current generation consoles, this being their first game developed exclusively for the systems; like in the way the campfire lights up the trees above it, or the way dust and embers move through the air, but besides some pretty sights to look at, there’s not much story or character stuff to chew on here.

The figure at the end of the trailer could be Bill Williamson, one of the major antagonists from Red Dead Redemption, which would make this game a prequel to that one, considering Williamson doesn’t make it out of Redemption alive. The only piece of dialogue we hear—”Listen to me, when the time comes, you have to run and don’t look back. This is over”—could definitely be something said to John Marston as he leaves the gang of outlaws he ran with in his early days pre-Redemption. We also get a look at the seven cowboys from the game’s poster in motion, bandanas over their faces, so it’s not likely that they’re up to any good.

But hey, it’s just a teaser, what did you expect? We still have another year for Rockstar to drip-feed us information.

Red Dead Redemption 2 releases in fall of 2017 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4—apparently, there’s no Nintendo Switch version.
