If you still haven’t played Team Ico’s Shadow of the Colossus, either its original release on Playstation 2 or its Playstation 3 remaster, this new version might be the best way to do so. Announced at this year’s E3 in June, this game will be not a simple remaster, but a full remake of the original classic. Sony showed off a new trailer (embedded above) at the Tokyo Game Show, captured on a Playstation 4 Pro—not your standard amateur Playstation 4.
The original 2005 Shadow of the Colossus had players play as a boy named Wander, who must conquer and defeat 16 large beings in order to revive a girl named Mono. The game was acclaimed upon its release, and even had an important story function in the Adam Sandler and Don Cheadle drama Reign Over Me. With the 4K capabilities of the Pro, the game’s sense of scale and beautiful art design should look better than ever.
The remake is being developed by Bluepoint Games, who previously remastered the first three Uncharted games for the Playstation 4 as The Nathan Drake Collection. Shadow of the Colossus will release on Playstation 4 sometime in 2018. Our review for the Playstation 3 remaster can be found here.
