<i>Shadow of the Tomb Raider</i> Release Date and Details Leaked Via Site's Source Code

Square Enix’s scheduled announcement of the next chapter in the saga of Lara Croft is set for Thursday, March 15, but details regarding the release of the next Tomb Raider title have already emerged, thanks to the source code of the teasing website.

The rumored title, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, was confirmed, along with the release date, preorder reveal date and a tagline that heavily hints at the title being the end of the rebooted story arc.

According to details revealed in the source code, Shadow of the Tomb Raider will launch on Sept. 14, 2018, with the reveal of preorder offerings and other details, which could possibly include the announcement of special editions of the game and the goodies those packages entail, scheduled for April 27. The labeled tagline featured in the leak claims that the title will be “the climactic finale of Lara’s origin story.” While the first two titles in the recent trilogy were released as timed exclusives for Xbox, Shadow of the Tomb Raider is expected to forgo that route and release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on the same day.

According to Kotaku, Shadow of the Tomb Raider will be the first game in the reboot trilogy to not be developed by Crystal Dynamics, which is currently working on an Avengers game. Development duties for the new title have fallen to Eidos Montreal, whose most recent release was Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

Square Enix has yet to confirm the details garnered from its website’s source code, but tomorrow’s scheduled announcement is still set to happen at 9 a.m. EST.
