As you’ve played The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you may have heard a character or two make mention of Satori, the Lord of the Mountain, a mysterious creature that’s said to be the reincarnation of a sage protecting a tiny section of forest where its prior form passed away. The Lord of the Mountain is likely a tribute to the late Satoru Iwata, the Nintendo president who died suddenly of complications related to an illness in 2015. This touching homage commands a stunning and awe inspiring presence in Breath of the Wild, but can be hard to catch if you don’t know where—but more importantly, when—to look. Here’s how to track down this magnificent steed.

The first challenge in mounting and riding the Lord of the Mountain is finding its spawn point. Its alternate name is Satori, so it's perhaps unsurprising that you can find it, where else, on Satori Mountain, west of Central Tower. There's a nearby shrine, Mogg Latan, that you can spawn to that will get you near the top in a hurry.

The second challenge is the Lord of the Mountain's spawn time. It only shows up at night, and it doesn't show up often. You'll know when it has spawned by the bright blue glow from the top of Satori Mountain.
Fast travel to Central Tower, and point Link towards the west. Build a fire, sit, and wait until night. At 10 PM, if the Lord of the Mountain spawns, the mountain will have an ethereal shaft of light at the top. Fast travel to the Mogg Latan shrine and follow the glow.

Satori will be in a small pond surrounded by several Blupees. Don your Sheikah set and take a stealth potion, if you need one. There are two large rocks with a tiny narrow passage leading up to the pond, and you can climb those to use as a launch point.

Alternately, you can just climb a small rock near the pond to get some height. Not much is needed, just enough to keep Link off the ground. Have him jump and paraglide off the rock and land on the beast's back.

If you've ever tamed the Giant Horse or the Royal White Stallion, you'll be familiar with this part of the process. It's like taming any other animal but it will take longer. Your ability to stay on the Lord of the Mountain's back will depend on how much Stamina you have. This is where Stamina replenishing meals and Stamina Wheel boosters will come in handy. You can pause and imbibe them from the menu even while in the middle of taming an animal.

It'll take about three Stamina Wheels but once you manage to stay on long enough, the Lord of the Mountain will be yours...for a time.

It is among the fastest mounts in Breath of the Wild, and it has an endless amount of Stamina. No matter how fast you press the acceleration button, its Stamina will refill immediately and you will never have to slow down.

Unfortunately, the Lord of the Mountain is a temporary mount, and cannot be registered at a stable and ridden later. You'll have to catch Satori every time you want to ride it, and if you hop off for even a moment, it runs away and disappears. It's good for a speedy and ethereal ride across Hyrule, but not as a lasting pet.
