Watch the Goosebump-Inducing Final Trailer for 1917

Sam Mendes’ World War I film 1917 has received its last trailer.

Director Mendes and cinematographer Roger Deakins present the hotly anticipated epic as one unbroken shot—depicting the stark and brutal realities faced by the soldiers during the war.

The film’s synopsis promises a story that is reminiscent of Peter Weir’s 1981 film Gallipoli and is quite frankly, anxiety-inducing:

At the height of the First World War, two young British soldiers, Schofield (Captain Fantastic’s George MacKay) and Blake (Game of Thrones’ Dean-Charles Chapman), are given a seemingly impossible mission. In a race against time, they must cross enemy territory and deliver a message that will stop a deadly attack on hundreds of soldiers—Blake’s own brother among them.

The trailer is two and a half minutes of goosebumps and sweaty armpits. Colin Firth plays a general who drops the chilling line that emphasizes the film’s urgency: “If you fail, it will be a massacre.” Also featured is Doctor Strange’s Benedict Cumberbatch and Mark Strong from Kingsman: The Secret Service. They are joined by castmates Andrew Scott, Richard Madden and Claire Duburcq.

1917 opens for a limited release on Dec. 25 and goes wide on Jan. 10, 2020. See the film’s final trailer below, and revisit a short behind-the-scenes featurette and the previous trailer here.
