A Wrinkle in Time is a big-screen adaptation of a beloved children’s book, Ava DuVernay’s follow-up to a pair of fantastic features in 13th and Selma, and the first movie directed by a woman of color to have a budget over $100 million. So naturally, it’s hotly anticipated. Perhaps that’s why the cast and crew decided to announce the movie’s release date with something a little more special than a press release.
According to DuVernay’s Twitter, the nearly three-minute video shows off 102 crewmembers across 27 departments as the cast and crew partake in the Mannequin Challenge. The camera pans past a police officer holding up traffic, lighting and sound guys, janitors, the prop department, catering, medical staff, a journalist doing an interview, producers, camera operators, the director of photography, young stars getting their makeup done, PAs holding coffee, the script supervisor, tutors and more, before finally getting to DuVernay herself as she frames a shot of the movie’s star Storm Reid, who’s holding a script with the movie’s release date written on it.
A Wrinkle in Time premieres on April 6, 2018. You can watch the crew’s reveal video above.
