You know why you’re here—we know why you’re here. Amazon is adding new streaming titles in March, and you want to know what they are. And honestly? The answer is not much to write home about. But we’re here to walk you through it all the same!
Next month’s standout film title is arguably Pet Sematary (March 19), the 2019 iteration of Stephen King’s 1983 horror novel. Though it’s not up to the level of other, more effective King adaptations, the film, which stars Jason Clarke, John Lithgow and Amy Seimetz, is a decent enough entry in the expansive King adaptation canon, not to mention one of Amazon’s only splashy movies on the way in March. Beyond that, only Jack Black-led animated franchise-starter Kung Fu Panda (March 1), 2006 subterranean horror-thriller The Descent and its 2010 follow-up The Descent: Part 2 (March 1), SNL spinoff comedy sequel Wayne’s World 2 (March 1), Kevin Smith indie-comedy revival Jay and Silent Bob Reboot (March 13) and Amazon original “seaside noir” Blow the Man Down (March 20) really move the needle, though knowing Amazon, it’s possible we’re overlooking a hidden gem or two. And speaking of gems: If you’re willing and able to pony up a few extra bucks, you can catch Josh and Benny Safdie’s Adam Sandler-starring 2019 standout Uncut Gems, available to buy Feb. 25 and rent March 10.
The pickings are pretty slim on the TV side of things, as well: Amazon’s biggest-ticket addition is Making the Cut (March 27), an international fashion competition series hosted by Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn, in which designers from around the world compete to make their brand the next big global phenomenon (and win a $1 million prize), with fashion experts including Naomi Campbell, Nicole Richie, Joseph Altuzarra, Carine Roitfeld and Chiara Ferragni ruling on the contestants’ fates. Winning looks will be shoppable via a dedicated Amazon storefront immediately after each episode, because what is entertainment if not a profitable commodity? Earlier in the month is when the bulk of Amazon’s TV offerings debut: We’ve got Showtime’s Golden Globe-nominated Patrick Melrose (March 1) miniseries; the debut seasons of two Amazon originals, drug trade crime-drama series ZeroZeroZero (March 6) and Rufus Sewell-starring psychological-thriller series Agatha Christie’s The Pale Horse (March 13); and Season 5 of acclaimed, Idris Elba-led detective drama Luther (March 23).
