New on Amazon Prime Video: All the Movies and TV Coming in April

As winter fades into distant memory and spring approaches, we continue to look forward to all the ways that we’ll avoid going outside by streaming new movies and TV shows from the comfort of our couches. Our options get even more plentiful this morning, as Amazon has unveiled its incoming programming slate for the month of April.

There is a lot to be excited about in terms of Amazon Prime Video’s impending feature film additions. The service is adding a cavalcade of old favorites on April 1, including classic Stephen King adaptation Carrie (1976), John Carpenter’s Kurt Russell-starring sci-fi actioner Escape from New York, iconic ‘80s horror landmark Friday the 13th, Clint Eastwood’s Oscar-winning crime drama Mystic River, game-changing 2007 horror hit Paranormal Activity, Oscar-winning Jonathan Demme drama Philadelphia, subversive ‘90s action-comedy Small Soldiers, Mel Brooks’ beloved Star Wars spoof Spaceballs, tearjerking 1989 dramedy Steel Magnolias, overlooked Danny McBride/Jody Hill comedy The Foot Fist Way, iconic ‘80s underdog story The Karate Kid, Martin Scorsese’s newly relevant The King of Comedy, Cheech & Chong’s seminal stoner comedy Up in Smoke and endearing 1993 sequel Wayne’s World 2. There are excellent films coming later in the month, as well, namely the latest disturbing drama from visionary Greek writer-director Yorgos Lanthimos, The Killing of a Sacred Deer (April 5) and Sean Baker’s poignant drama The Florida Project, both of which numbered among Paste’s top films of 2017. (The Florida Project was robbed at the Oscars, as well, but that’s another story.)

As for April’s incoming TV, Amazon boasts a couple of noteworthy original series, as well as a handful of licensed shows. First up is the “icily compelling” second season of the BBC and Starz co-production The Missing on April 2, followed by the fourth season of Prime original Bosch—starring veteran character actor Titus Welliver (The Town, Deadwood) as Detective Harry Bosch—on April 13, the fifth season of History’s fictional epic drama Vikings on April 24 and season three of Prime original NFL docuseries All or Nothing on April 27, with this installment following the Dallas Cowboys’ 2017 season. Speaking of sports, Prime Video is adding UFC Pay-Per-View live events in APril, as well, starting with UFC 223 Ferguson vs. Khabib on April 7. And there’s plenty more TV to be had via Amazon Channels, as Prime members who are subscribed to CBS All Access can watch live sporting and music events The Masters and the 2018 Academy of Country Music Awards, respectively, while HBO subscribers can catch the Westworld season two premiere. You’ll find a full Amazon Channels streaming guide here.
