The movie Dumbo has long been a bone of contention among fans of Disney, and now it shows no signs of letting up. The original movie ranks among Disney’s most heartwarming films for some, while for others, the film’s exploitation of racial stereotypes makes it hard to watch. Disney’s latest plan for a live-action remake perhaps promises to change all that.
With Tim Burton at the film’s helm, viewers should not expect quite as tame a depiction of Dumbo. Further adding flavor to the film is the following, reported by Variety: Tom Hanks and Will Smith are both in talks to play its antagonist and protagonist, respectively. The film, slated to be a mix of live action and animation, will continue Disney’s recent project of re-imagining their animated films in live action. Still, Tim Burton’s vision probably won’t step right into line with Maleficient, The Jungle Book or Cinderella.
