New on Hulu: All the Movies and TV Coming in December

December is already upon us, but it’s never too late to take stock of all the movies and TV shows arriving on Hulu in this calendar month. The big green streamer is enhancing its film and television library with a number of choice additions—we’ll be far more specific below.

Hulu’s incoming film slate is led by none other than No Country for Old Men, Joel and Ethan Coen’s intense 2007 thriller, which arrived on the streamer Dec. 1. The mesmerizing neo-Western—which won four Oscars, including Best Picture—boasts bulletproof performances, highlighted by Javier Bardem’s chilling turn as inexorable hitman (and instant-classic screen villain) Anton Chigurh; an Academy Award-winning script that the Coens adapted from Cormac McCarthy’s novel of the same name; and stunning cinematography courtesy of the incomparable Roger Deakins, all of which adds up to a must-see movie. Other standout films that landed on the first of the month include Francis Ford Coppola’s monumental war epic Apocalypse Now, Sam Mendes’ mid-life crisis drama American Beauty, Ang Lee martial-arts masterpiece Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Oscar-winning drama Driving Miss Daisy, the original Friday the 13th and seven of its sequels, Quentin Tarantino’s iconic 1994 crime thriller Pulp Fiction, Tom Cruise/Dustin Hoffman drama Rain Man, another Tarantino classic in Reservoir Dogs, Billy Bob Thornton’s Oscar-winning directorial debut Sling Blade, Jonathan Demme’s indelible horror thriller The Silence of the Lambs, mockumentary-style comedy classic This is Spinal Tap, prescient Jim Carrey-starring drama-within-a-drama The Truman Show and twisty crime thriller The Usual Suspects. And coming this later this month in film are Mike Myers career lowlight The Love Guru on Dec. 13, Charlie Kaufman and Duke Johnson’s poignant stop-motion animated dramedy Anomalisa on Dec. 17, Tina Fey-starring war dramedy Whiskey Tango Foxtrot on Dec. 24, the Marvel Cinematic Universe keystone Iron Man on Dec. 27, Ben Stiller’s disastrous Zoolander 2 on Dec. 30 and the conclusion of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy on Dec. 31.

Hulu’s TV offerings inbound this month aren’t quite as impressive as all of the above, which is not to say the list doesn’t have its highlights—let’s move through those chronologically, shall we? Arriving tomorrow, Friday, Dec. 7, is the complete first season of Hulu original drama Shut Eye, starring Jeffrey Donovan as a fortune-telling scammer who begins having real psychic visions after a traumatic event. One day later on Dec. 8 comes Hairspray Live!, NBC’s Emmy-winning live TV special iteration of the Tony-winning musical, which Paste ranked earlier this year as one of the best live TV musicals to date. One day after that on Dec. 9, all 10 episodes of surprise-released web series Horace and Pete debut on Hulu, a development that would be exciting if not for the Louis C.K. of it all. Arriving later in the month on Dec. 20 are the complete first season of Nat Geo’s Mars, which Paste’s Amy Glynn describes as a “fascinating and beautifully produced,” if sometimes clumsy “hybrid, part scripted drama and part docuseries, shifting between characters in the not-too-distant future establishing a Mars colony, and discussion among thinkers, scientists, technicians, historians and entrepreneurs who have a lot to say about how it will likely happen.” Rounding out the month are the complete second season of RuPaul’s Drag Race spinoff RuPaul’s Drag Race Allstars, arriving on Dec. 26, and the complete sixth season of Adult Swim animated comedy The Venture Bros., debuting Dec. 31.

And speaking of the end of the month, Hulu loses a couple of stand-out titles in December, as well, with the following set to disappear from the service on Dec. 31: indispensable 1974 noir classic Chinatown, 1964’s Peter Sellers-starring The Pink Panther (plus the 2006, Steve Martin-starring revamp), WWII-set Tom Cruise vehicle Valkyrie and both volumes of Quentin Tarantino’s martial arts extravaganza of a revenge epic Kill Bill, among others. Adjust your viewing queue (or “My Stuff,” as Hulu inexplicably calls it) accordingly.

You’ll find the complete list of everything coming to and leaving Hulu this month below.
