What better way for 10 days of incredible displays of film, music and technology to end than for gunshots to be fired in the middle of a crowd?
Early yesterday morning, that’s what happened at SXSW, as a shooter on Austin’s bustling 6th Street fired two shots into the air and caused a panic. Fortunately, no one was hurt, and the Austin Police Department reported that they captured the suspect.
Check out video footage of the scene below—the shots ring out at 1:38—and notice that there already seems to be a commotion before the incident takes place. Whether or not the shots fired were related to the altercation remains a mystery.
Sadly, this isn’t the first time something terrible has happened at SXSW: in 2014, a driver ran over a number of pedestrians on Red River St., killing two on the scene and wounding 23 others, two of whom later died of their injuries.
