Today’s new The Founder trailer is short on new footage, but long on intrigue nonetheless. The one-minute video, debuted by EW, promises an intense turn from Michael Keaton as Ray Kroc, the struggling businessman who turned McDonald’s into the fast-food giant it is today.

Written by Robert Siegel (The Wrestler) and directed by John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side), The Founder also stars Laura Dern as Ray’s wife Ethel Kroc, as well as Nick Offerman and John Carroll Lynch as Dick and Mac McDonald, respectively, plus supporting performances from Linda Cardellini, B.J. Novak and Patrick Wilson.

The film’s plot pivots on the conflict between Keaton’s Kroc and the brothers McDonald, with the former’s insatiable ambitions for the restaurant far outpacing the latter’s small-time comfort levels. As an uncompromising Kroc pushes the brothers to expand—”Franchise the damn thing!” he exhorts—they only shoot him down, and their disagreements blossom into a full-on power struggle. Offerman’s deadpan performance in particular shines in this new trailer, as he laments a “violently disconnected” call from Kroc and issues “an endless parade of no’s” to the persistent businessman. The whole thing smacks of both The Social Network and There Will Be Blood, two Oscar-winning dramas The Founder would do well to follow in the footsteps of.

The Founder began a limited run on Dec. 7 to qualify for Oscar consideration—the film goes wide on Jan. 20, 2017. Watch the new trailer above, and find the full-length trailer here.
