The new trailer for Mudbound director Dee Rees’ The Last Thing He Wanted, starring Anne Hathaway and based on the Joan Didion novel of the same name, gives a glimpse of a cunning journalist who finds herself in the middle of an arms deal in South America. Hathaway plays Elena McMahon, a “reporter with a moral compass,” who eventually finds herself in the midst of an international weapons smuggling operation involving her father (Willem Dafoe). On her tail is Treat Morrison (Ben Affleck), who suspects that she might be embroiled in something illegal. Rosie Perez is also featured in the trailer, answering a phone and wielding a camera.
The Last Thing He Wanted will have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival next week, and it will be available on Netflix starting Feb. 21.
