Videogame adaptations are all the rage in Hollywood. We’ve got Assassin’s Creed coming later this year, a Firewatch flick, and now, there’s also a Sonic the Hedgehog film in the works. Deadpool director Tim Miller, who recently stepped down as director on Deadpool 2, is developing the project, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Miller is currently looking to develop the project with Jeff Fowler, a long-time collaborator of Miller’s from Blur Studio. Miller would executive-produce the project, which would also mark Fowler’s directorial debut. The pair have tapped Patrick Casey and Josh Miller, who penned the Oscar-nominated short Sad Slasher, to write the screenplay.

“Jeff is an incredible director with strong story instincts,” Josh Miller says. “The world of Sonic presents the perfect opportunity for him to leverage his experience in animation to bring new dimension to this iconic character.”

With all the talent behind the screen, it’s possible to feel hopeful that this adaptation will have a unique take on the world it’s trying to re-imagine. Of course, Wreck-It Ralph fans will note that this won’t be Sonic’s first trip to the big screen.
