ANOHNI’s “Paradise,” released last month, is a “mis-shifting beauty” of a track, a squelchy collabo with Hudson Mohawke and Oneohtrix Point Never that saw her doubling down on the propulsive feelings of 2016’s HOPELESSNESS.
That same sense of propulsion, of waiting to ignite at any moment, carries over to the new Colin Whitaker-directed video for the track, released today. The clip’s star Eliza Douglas casts a smoldering, 1000-yard stare directly into the soul of the camera. It’s both an enrapturing look and a withering one. She’s deadpan but not defeatist in any noticeable way. ANOHNI and Douglas might be “trapped,” though that’s a long way from being lost.
ANOHNI’s forthcoming PARADISE is out on March 17 through Secretly Canadian and Rough Trade. You can preorder the EP here, check out the video for its title track above, and watch two other ANOHNI videos here.
