Aphex Twin Announces First-Ever Livestream

Electronic music composer Aphex Twin (real name: Richard D. James) will be collaborating with NTS Radio to host his first ever livestreaming performance on June 3.

James’ performance at Houston’s Day for Night Festival this past December was his first U.S. appearance in eight years. Next, he is slated to headline London’s Field Day festival this weekend, and after teasing a project with NTS Radio earlier this week, it has just been announced Aphex will livestream the performance via the station’s website.

The opportunity to see Aphex Twin make his music live is a rare opportunity, and should be more compelling visually than actually standing in front of the stage as James stays glued to his monitors. Aphex and NTS’s visual collaborator Weirdcore will adapt the visuals of the Field Day set to create “a bespoke online visual immersion,” according to a press release.

Earlier this week, Aphex teased the NTS collab with a mutilated audio clip on Twitter that linked back to the NTS site and hinted at the date June 3.

James’ last release as Aphex Twin, the Cheetah EP, was released summer 2016. The name of his forthcoming demo, 4xAtlantis take1, was revealed in April.
