California pop-punks Blink-182 have just premiered the music video for the lead single off of their forthcoming album, California, titled “Bored to Death.” This is the band’s first video release since the permanent departure of long-time guitarist/vocalist Tom Delonge last year. (Delonge has since moved on to much stranger pursuits.)

The “Bored to Death” video features Delonge’s replacement, Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba, playing with the two other members, bassist and vocalist Mark Hoppus and drummer Travis Barker, in a dark club. Their performance is intercut with shots of an apathetic student fantasizing about what he’d rather be doing than sitting in class. Uploaded to the band’s YouTube account yesterday, the video has already accumulated almost half a million views. “Bored to Death” is the third single that has been revealed so far off of California, following “Rabbit Hole” and the very brief “Built this Pool.”

“The guys aren’t 23 anymore, they’re dads now, so they’re no longer writing songs about poo and that kind of stuff,” said John Feldmann, who produced the new album. “But there’s still got to be a sense of humor to it; it’s got to be fun and funny, but also age appropriate. There’s got to be growth on the album and there is.”

California is scheduled for release on July 1, Blink-182’s seventh studio album on the BMG label. The album is available for pre-order here, which comes with a complimentary download of the other two singles, “Rabbit Hole” and “Built This Pool.”
