Napa Valley’s three-day conglomeration of food and music offered a softer alternative to the more rigorous sunburn marathons at other fests. Mainly, it was an opportunity to indulge in the vino and gastro joys of America’s geographic winery with 12,000 other people. Shit could still rock, but not too hard. Example: fest headliners Foo Fighters’ set leaked into the 10 PM curfew (of course the curfew was 10 PM), and like a vinter plucking a ripe pinotage grape from the vine, fest overseers pulled the plug on Dave Grohl and crew (including, may we add, a ferocious Pat Smear). Not to be denied, a sold-out crowd brimming with NorCal tech bros cheered on as the group wrapped “Everlong,” the standout single from the Foo’s sophomore album, The Colour and the Shape, which released 20 years ago this month. Concert photo queen Amy Harris was on hand for the power chords and demi-glaces, capturing sets from Charles Bradley (we love you Charles Bradley!), The Roots and a parade of celebrity chefs.
