Better Grow Out That Beard, New Iron & Wine Is On The Way

Sam Beam, better known by his moniker Iron & Wine, is a folk hero. He’s a siren song for men with lengthy beards, flannel and denim. Last but not least, he also happens to be coming out with new music.

Well, not-so-new music, if we’re getting technical. Last year he released Beast Epic, his first album since 2013’s Ghost on Ghost. As you can imagine, Beam probably wrote a substantial amount of songs during that four-year grace period; many of which didn’t make it to Beast Epic. Now, he’s set to release a new EP filled with songs from that same time period.

Weed Garden is a six-track project of songs that Beam didn’t have time to finish while putting together Best Epic, according to Mxdwn. It will include “Waves of Galveston,” a song that he’s performed live but never officially released, as well as a new single “What Hurts Worse.”

“What Hurts Worse” is a fingerpicked song with a soft, steady and calming drum beat. Beam’s voice, as always, is a delicate folk rambling and like most Iron & Wine songs, “What Hurts Worse” is fit for the changing colors, crunching leaves and crisp air of autumn weather. You can listen to it below.

Weed Garden will be released via Sub Pop on August 31, and Iron & Wine will touring through the fall. You can check out the dates underneath along with a 2011 Daytrotter performance.
