On October 13, Jimmy Eat World performed at The Newport Music Hall in Columbus, Ohio—exactly two years from the day of their last layover at the venue. The 2014 gig featured a song-by-song playthrough of Futures in honor of the album’s 10th anniversary. The future also proved to be an unintentional theme of the Arizona quintet’s show two weeks ago; vocalist/guitarist Jim Adkins spoke of his shock at fans who weren’t born before Clarity’s 1999 debut still knowing the lyrics from the benchmark album. (The group played three cuts from the LP: “Lucky Denver Mint,” “For Me This Is Heaven,” and “Blister.”) Jimmy Eat World also showed how gracefully they’ve evolved since their inception in 1994, showing off new driving, harmony-filled songs from new release Integrity Blues, released last Friday. Check out the gallery above for photos from the packed Midwest show.
