In direct contrast to the serrated power chords and veteran anarchy of Riot Fest 2,000 miles northeast in Chicago, KAABOO is about soaking in some good vibes, hearing some good music, laughing at folks like Patton Oswalt and generally being a person in San Diego. Think of it as what form VH1 (just Googled to see if VH1 still exists…it does!) would take transfigured into 72 hours at the Del Mar Racetrack & Fairgrounds. Take the first day, which featured The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Weezer, Smash Mouth and ostensibly other bands who were required to have at least one song worshiping California before playing. Amy Harris be on hand all weekend to capture the chill, starting with the above gallery. Of note, Michael McDonald and Kesha were worth the trip alone.
