Nick Cave has shared another video from his forthcoming live EP, Distant Sky, out Sept. 28 via Bad Seeds Ltd. “The Mercy Seat,” along with the rest of the EP, was filmed at the Copenhagen Royal Arena in October of 2017. The EP features the Bad Seeds performing songs from multiple eras of Cave’s discography with expanded orchestral backing.
In their performance of “The Mercy Seat,” the band takes the song down to its bareboned acoustic roots while Cave prowls the stage. The song, off Cave’s 1988 album Tender Prey, becomes something slower here, something more dynamic. The song’s signature crescendo is lent more weight by its comparatively soft beginnings. Watch the entire performance below.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds will be performing four shows in October. They will be joined by special guest Cigarettes After Sex for their shows in Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and Toronto. Scroll down for the list of dates and and revisit the band’s performance of Distant Sky’s title track here.
