Pitchfork kicked off its 12th Festival yesterday at Union Park in Chicago. As with previous years, the event isn’t afraid to mesh left-field sonic pioneers (experimental EDM upstart Arca, MC activist Madame Gandhi) with indie veterans, mostly selected from the early aughts Williamsburg scene where the website’s second office took root. Highlights from Day One included an effortlessly svelte LCD Soundsystem, Oakland MC Kamaiyah and post-punk outfit Priests. Check out Paste photographer DeShaun Craddock’s shots in the gallery above, with more coverage coming tomorrow and Monday.
