The Rock Hall has revealed its highly anticipated annual list of nominees, with seven first-time nominees out of the list of 17 artists. Inductees will be announced in May 2022, and the official induction ceremony will take place later this fall. The date, venue and ticket sale information have yet to be announced.
Beck, Eminem, Duran Duran, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, Carly Simon and A Tribe Called Quest are all featured on the ballot for the first time. Eminem is receiving the nod in his first year of eligibility, meaning his first commercial recording was released over 25 years ago as of 2022. On the other side of the list, Pat Benatar, Kate Bush, DEVO, Eurythmics, Judas Priest, Fela Kuti, MC5, New York Dolls, Rage Against The Machine and Dionne Warwick have all been nominated in prior years.
“This year’s ballot recognizes a diverse group of incredible artists, each who has had a profound impact on the sound of youth culture,” said John Sykes, Chairman of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, in a statement, “Their music not only moved generations, but also influenced the sound of countless artists that followed.”
Bush, DEVO, Kuti, New York Dolls and Warwick were also included on last year’s list of nominees, along with Iron Maiden, Mary J. Blige and Chaka Khan. Tina Turner, Carole King, The Go-Go’s, JAY-Z, Foo Fighters and Todd Rundgren were honored as the Hall’s 2021 inductees.
The inductee decisions are determined by official ballots sent out to “an international voting body of more than 1,000 artists, historians, and members of the music industry,” per a press release, as well as a fan vote, which you can take part in now. Each fan voter is allowed one vote per day until April 29. You can follow along with the current standings here.
