We’ve long been anticipating The xx’s follow-up album to 2012’s Coexist, and the British indie-pop band have disclosed that they’ve been in the studio. But is the next record even closer than we’d thought?
The group curates an “In the Studio Spotify playlist that, until now, has only consisted of other artists’ music. But yesterday they added a 55-second track without a name or credit, and with a white box in lieu of album artwork. Fans are suspecting that it’s a new song—or a preview of it—from the band’s forthcoming third album.
The track is tagged with The xx’s label, Young Turks. And with an echoey atmosphere, dream-like drones and fleeting female vocals, it sounds like something The xx would write. The music builds until it’s abruptly cut off right before the approaching climax. This certainly seems like a tease to get listeners wanting more.
So, now we await album news … check out the mysterious teaser via Spotify here.
