Ahead of the highly anticipated release of his sixth studio release Single Mothers (out 9.9.14 on Vagrant Records), Justin Townes Earle held court at EastSide Manor for a bare bones solo set of new material. Armed with just a guitar, his wonderfully resonant rasp, and a batch of new songs, Earle delivered one of the most intimate and intuitive NoiseTrade EastSide Manor Sessions we’ve ever heard. While the recently married and newly sober Earle’s songwriting is stilled fueled by the same strange bedfellows of ache and aspiration, the balance of power between the two may be shifting. Listen closely to the Billie Holiday-influenced “White Gardenias,” the soulful sweep of “Worried ‘Bout The Weather,” and the bluesy, retro-slink of "Single Mothers" and you’ll see that Earle has more than few new songwriting tricks up his sleeve left to play.
