Description

The Traveller is the debut album from Auckland four-piece, [shift]. The 11 tracks here will take you on a journey from ambient, yet hard hitting riff-rock in the vein of Foals, through to soaring ballads like ‘Anyway’. These songs will get in your head, a soundtrack for moments of beauty and moments of loss.At the same time epic, and laser-focussed, [shift] draw on the tradition of melodic, New Zealand rock bands such as Midnight Youth and Evermore. Yet, there’s variety too. ‘Julia’ breaks down into a tasteful, bluesy solo, while ‘Preacher Man Death’ puts the spotlight on a sledgehammer of a riff. The Traveller is an album that’s polished and hook-laden, full of yearning vocals, and above all, uplifting, towering songs.
