You wouldn’t know it from the way the Republicans acted during the Harvey Weinstein mess last week, but they actually anointed a serial sexual predator as the standard bearer for their party last year. Despite the GOP’s best efforts to characterize the Democrats by Harvey Weinstein’s crimes, the fact is that Weinstein is but a minnow swimming amongst whales when it comes to DNC donations—which means that Weinstein is Hollywood’s, not the Democrats problem.
Last year, the face of the GOP was caught on tape bragging that he “grabs women by the pussy” while simultaneously claiming that all women who accuse him of sexual assault are opportunistic liars. In January, a former contestant on The Apprentice, Summer Zervos, filed a defamation lawsuit against him for asserting that her tale of his sexual harassment is pure fiction. Now, her lawyers have served Trump with a subpoena asking that his campaign preserve all documents pertaining to Zervos and other alleged victims. Per Buzzfeed:
They also asked for “all documents” concerning other women who have accused Trump of groping them, including Jessica Leeds, Mindy McGillivray, Rachel Crooks, Natasha Stoynoff, Temple Taggart, Kristin Anderson, Cathy Heller, Jill Harth, and Jessica Drake. The subpoena seeks “all documents concerning any accusations that were made during Donald J. Trump’s election campaign for president, that he subjected any woman to unwanted sexual touching and/or sexually inappropriate behavior.” Last year, Trump tweeted a blanket denial, saying, “Nothing ever happened with any of these women.”
Only time will tell if anything comes of this, but between the Russia investigation and Trump’s history of alleged sexual assault, it seems like nearly every single document from the 2016 Trump campaign will wind up being presented in court one day.
