The Arecibo Observatory
Not only does this picture show the scale of humanity's achievements, it also acts an homage to Sagan's previous attempt to send a message to extraterrestrial life. Picture is the Arecibo Observatory, the largest single-dish telescope in the world at the time and the device that beamed Sagan's Arecibo message into space in 1974.

Astronaut
One of the final images on the record, this picture shows Edward H. White during the first spacewalk on June 3, 1965. It honors White and the crew of Apollo 1 who died in a fire in 1967. It also communicates to whoever or whatever may be viewing it that humanity has left Earth's gravity and are exploring space.
