Kenzo Takada has made fun a priority for the Kenzo fashion brand since it was launched in 1970. Almost five decades later, that’s still true, and it was on full display during the brand’s runway show commemorating its collaboration with retailer H&M, which was a little unusual, to say the least.
The show took the form of a musical, complete with 12 choreographed dancers/models who used their moves to showcase the clothing they were modeling. There were also four-string quartets, a beat boxer and a full drumline.
At the show’s end, pink confetti was fired from cannons and the runway was transformed into a dance floor where the audience could mingle with celebrities like campaign face Chance the Rapper, Rosario Dawson and Lupita Nyong’o.
The night was capped off by a mystery performer that was revealed to be Ice Cube, which is the best kind of surprise. The Kenzo collection will launch at H&M on Nov. 3.
