Better Than OK: Local Honey, Nashville’s Hair and Vintage Destination

Local Honey, a full-service salon and boutique, offers you the opportunity to transform yourself in one afternoon, or just enhance your look. Their motto, “You are OK,” isn’t meant to boost your ego, but make you feel comfortable in your own skin. The rest is up to you. With a thoughtful selection of vintage clothing, pieces by local Nashville designers, the assistance of a helpful staff and a great cut and color, you will surely leave feeling better than you entered (retail therapy anyone?).

The store carries labels by local designers such as Magness Collection, featuring hand dyed vintage pieces that seem modern and high end. Vintage boots line the front wall, and there’s a great selection of hats and handbags to compliment your new wardrobe. Along with clothing and accessories, you can pick up some nice giftables, such as (non-local) Organic Punk scented soy candles from L.A. Beauty products used in the salon and for sale include the full line of Oribe and R+Co products as well as Smith and Cult nail polish.

The East Nashville store is spacious and bright, with floor-to-ceiling windows on a corner lot location. The interior was completed by Matt Alexander of Holler Design. His amazing design aesthetic and principal of using locally sourced materials can be seen throughout popular spots in Music City, making this space feel modern yet utterly Nashville.

What began as a men’s line turned vintage pop-up shop, Local Honey as it is known today is the brainchild of best friends Luke Tidwell and Kevin Perryman. Kevin, a Nashville native, spent nearly a decade in New York City where he worked at bumble & bumble before returning to start anew in a post-recession world. With the support and partnership of Luke, they were then ready to follow their dreams in fashion. Those dreams have since grown to include the salon, expand to two locations and launch an educational program for hairstylists last year. Kevin summed up the vibe of the store best in this statement, “Local Honey is like this: You can be on the runway, you can be a runaway, you can like Vogue or you can listen to The Pouges, you’re gonna find what you need at Local Honey at that point.” You can hear more about their story and view an in-store performance by Ranch Ghost in this Small Batch Presents episode.
