The Witch and Split breakout Anya Taylor-Joy will lead a new Netflix limited series from Godless creator Scott Frank titled The Queen’s Gambit, the streamer announced Tuesday.
Set during the Cold War, The Queen’s Gambit follows Taylor-Joy’s young, orphaned character Beth Harmon in her journey to become the world’s greatest chess player, as well as her struggles with addiction along the way. The show is based on a novel of the same name by Walter Tevis.
In addition to the new six-episode limited series, Taylor-Joy is also slated to star in Edgar Wright’s Last Night in Soho, a new adaptation of the Jane Austen novel Emma and season five of Peaky Blinders. The sought-after actress will also lend her voice to the animated Netflix series Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.
Two-time Oscar nominee Frank will write, direct and executive produce The Queen’s Gambit. No word on a premiere date yet.
