Doctor Who’s Christmas special is on the way, and it’s bringing a special gift: The First Doctor, as played by David Bradley.
BBC has made it clear that this special will be the one wherein fans will see Peter Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor regenerate into Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor. Whittaker will be the first female Doctor in the show’s decades-long history. You can get your first look at her Doctor here.
This is not Bradley’s first go-round as the character made famous by William Hartnell. He played the First Doctor previously in “The Doctor Falls.” He also played Hartnell himself in a making-of docudrama. We don’t get much in the way of plot details here, but it looks like the two Doctors will have to work together to save some time-space continuum or other.
The Christmas special, titled “Twice Upon a Time,” will air Sunday, Dec. 25 at 9/8c on BBC AMERICA. It will be immediately followed by a documentary detailing Capaldi’s run as the Doctor. To prep for the new special, BBC America will air a 24 hour, seven day marathon of Doctor Who, featuring episodes with David Tennant, Matt Smith and Capaldi.
