Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto is set to play the female lead in a new Showtime miniseries, Guerrilla, THR reports.
The six-part series from executive producers John Ridley and Idris Elba, who will also co-star, focuses on a couple, Jas Mitra (Pinto) and Marcus (not yet cast), who free a political prisoner and create a radical underground cell in 1970s London. Their target becomes the Black Power Desk, a political unit designed to eliminate any kind of black activism.
Ridley, creator of acclaimed drama American Crime, will write the majority of Guerrilla’s episodes, and will direct the first two episodes and the finale. Emmy nom Sam Miller, who has worked with Elba on Luther, will direct the other three episodes.
Guerrilla will begin production late this summer in London. A premiere date for the miniseries has not been locked down yet.
