Netflix spring streaming is in full force, and this time the forthcoming television lineup is, quite frankly, a banger.
But first, the popular streaming service plans to release a handful of original films, all of which look very okay. We’ve got War Machine, which falls into the category of satire war films with a touch of dark comedy—very Catch 22, but with journalists and Afghanistan. They’re also releasing two animated films, and British comedy Mindhorn, which Rotten Tomatoes describes as “a cult comedy classic in waiting.”
Honestly, you can probably safely ignore the original film lineup in favor of the fantastic original series lineup. We’ve got the highly anticipated second season of Master of None and season three of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt to bring the laughs. If you’re in the mood for something, well, moodier, we’ve got season five of House of Cards and the third and final season of Bloodline to enjoy. Those four shows are more than enough to keep us busy well into the summer months.
Netflix also has a decent array of original comedies on the way, most notably Hasan Minhaj: Homecoming King and Sarah Silverman: A Speck of Dust, both of which start streaming toward the end of May. They’ve thrown in some original documentaries as well, including Get Me Roger Stone (ugh) and The Mars Generation (yay!).
Aside from Netflix originals, we’ve got some excellent additions coming our way. For movies, we’ve got Inglourious Basterds and Don’t Think Twice to look forward to, and for television we’ve got season one of Riverdale (finally!) and series four of Sherlock. Unfortunately, like with every month, we will also be saying goodbye to a few favorites, including the very popular Belcher family and their burgers (Bob’s Burgers, to be exact).
