Seth MacFarlane, Sienna Miller, Others Join Showtime’s Roger Ailes Limited Series

Showtime has set four new stars for its forthcoming limited series about the life of late Fox News head Roger Ailes, as the network revealed on Twitter Friday.

Based on Gabriel Sherman’s 2014 book The Loudest Voice in the Room, the show’s cast now includes Seth MacFarlane, Sienna Miller, Simon McBurney and Annabelle Wallis.

The four join the previously announced Russell Crowe, playing the controversial late cable news titan, and Naomi Watts, playing former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson.

MacFarlane, in a rare dramatic turn, will play ousted Fox News exec and Ailes confidante Brian Lewis, while McBurney will play Fox head Rupert Murdoch, Miller will play Ailes’ ex-wife Beth Ailes and Wallis will play Fox News exec Laurie Luhn.

The yet-untitled series will be a co-production between Showtime and Blumhouse Television, and is based on Sherman’s extensive reporting on the allegations of sexual harassment that spurred Ailes’ ouster from Fox News in 2016, a year before his death. Sherman co-wrote the first episode with Spotlight director Tom McCarthy, who, along with Blumhouse head Jason Blum, serves as executive producer.

The recent casting news comes on the heels of another high-profile project based on Ailes’ life, a film directed by The Big Short co-writer Charles Randolph, being dropped at Annapurna Pictures just two weeks before the start of production.

The forthcoming Showtime limited series will run eight episodes, although the network has not yet announced a premiere date.
